How Homer Protects Your Content

Once installed, Homer works automatically. When a user attempts to delete an entry, asset, or category in the Control Panel, Homer intercepts the action and performs an impact analysis before anything happens.

Impact Analysis

Homer builds a usage graph by querying Craft’s relations table. For any element, it reveals:

  • How many other elements reference it
  • Which elements reference it, and through which fields
  • The status of each referencing element (live, disabled, pending)

Deletion Safety Modals

When a deletion is attempted, Homer displays a modal showing:

  • A risk badge (Safe, Low Risk, High Risk, or Critical)
  • A usage breakdown listing all referencing elements and fields
  • For Critical risk, a typed confirmation prompt requiring the user to type “DELETE”

Usage Badges

Homer adds incoming reference count badges to element edit pages, so editors can see at a glance how connected an element is before making changes.

CP Dashboard

Homer adds a section to the Craft CP sidebar with:

  • Dashboard — Recent high-risk actions and overall safety status
  • Audit Log — Full log of every risky action with filters for user, action type, and risk level
  • Impact Reports — Explore the usage graph for any element

Homer Safety Utility

The Homer Safety utility (accessible from the Utilities section) includes:

  • Orphaned Entry Finder — Discover entries with no incoming references
  • Unused Asset Review — Find assets not referenced by any entry or rich text field
  • Recent High-Risk Actions — Quick view of recent dangerous operations

Permissions

Homer provides five granular permissions that can be assigned to user groups:

  • View Impact Reports (homer:viewImpactReports) — Access usage and impact pages
  • Bypass Warnings (homer:bypassWarnings) — Skip warnings without restriction
  • Bypass Blocks (homer:bypassBlocks) — Override block mode (use carefully)
  • View Audit Log (homer:viewAuditLog) — Access the audit log
  • Manage Settings (homer:manageSettings) — Change plugin configuration
